Hustle, Grind, Execute: The Legal and Logistical Intersection of Public Art Contracts

Presented in partnership with Capitol View Arts and the George Washington Carver Museum, Cultural & Genealogy Center.

Public art projects present a myriad of concerns for the creator, many of which are unique to location and installation. Since these commissions are never one size fits all, artists need to understand how project goals intertwine with contract clauses to ensure that artists protect their intellectual property and receive fair payment.

Join artist Ryan Runcie and attorney Adrian Resendez as they walk through the public art commission process and talk about project management, costs, risks, timing, and the importance of accounting for these items in the artist’s contract for services.

Ryan Runcie is a studio artist, muralist, and painting instructor local to Austin, TX. He has experience in creating large scale mural projects for municipal governments, school districts, private companies, nonprofit organizations, and individuals. More about Ryan at http://ryanruncie.com.

Adrian Resendez is an attorney in Austin, TX. He concentrates in the legal areas of intellectual property, entertainment, immigration, and business. More about Adrian at bandrlaw.com/adrian-resendez.
